About the Role

Southern Cross Financial is seeking a detail-oriented Paraplanner to join our growing Financial Planning team. As part of our 8-person planning division, you'll work directly with our senior financial planners to prepare comprehensive statements of advice and conduct investment research for our diverse client base of high-net-worth individuals and SME owners across Western Australia.

This is an excellent opportunity for a finance graduate to build expertise in financial planning while contributing to our firm's continued growth. You'll gain exposure to complex wealth management strategies, SMSF administration, and the unique financial needs of WA's resource sector professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed statements of advice (SOAs) and records of advice (ROAs) ensuring full compliance with ASIC regulatory requirements
  • Conduct comprehensive research on investment products, platforms, and strategies across equities, managed funds, ETFs, and alternative investments
  • Analyse client financial positions and model various scenarios using our financial planning software
  • Prepare fact-finding questionnaires and client meeting documentation
  • Support senior planners with portfolio reviews and rebalancing recommendations
  • Maintain accurate client files and ensure all documentation meets compliance standards
  • Assist with annual review processes and ongoing client communication
  • Research superannuation and pension strategies, particularly for mining executives and business owners
  • Stay current with regulatory changes and industry best practices through continuing professional development

What You'll Bring

Essential: - Bachelor's degree in Finance, Financial Planning, Economics, or related field - Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail - Excellent written communication skills and ability to explain complex concepts clearly - Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel - Understanding of Australian superannuation system and investment fundamentals - Commitment to pursuing CFP certification or equivalent professional qualifications

Highly Regarded: - Previous experience in financial services or planning (including internships) - Knowledge of XPLAN or similar financial planning software - Understanding of SMSF administration and compliance requirements - Familiarity with Australian taxation and estate planning principles
